Since 1998, Doctor Carol Ann Ryser has been using Transfer Factor to treat her chronically ill patients, and has experienced considerable success in diminishing symptoms and achieving overall health improvements among those patients. In this interview, Doctor Ryser discusses her experience with Transfer Factor as an effective treatment for chronic illness.
Doctor Ryser: "The diagnosis of a patient is of utmost importance. I perform a series of genetic testing with PCR (Polymer Chain Reaction) that tells me the specific bacteria or virus(es) a patient has. Transfer Factor helps with viral, bacterial, and fungal infections as well as parasites, and supports the immune system while treating the problems a patient has. Regarding what formulas of Transfer Factor I use for different patients, I use the plain Transfer Factor as a general prevention treatment, especially for infections and allergies and for patients with Epstein-Barr, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome."
Q: How much Transfer Factor do you typically recommend, and for what kind of patient?
Doctor Ryser: "For chronically ill patients, including those with chronic sinusitis, and multiple allergies, I recommend six capsules a day, and depending on the severity of their symptoms, I might recommend up to twelve capsules a day. For children ages 7-12 or 13, depending on weight, I will recommend two capsules a day, to be taken at bedtime.
When a patient is beginning to get sick and is coming down with a fever, I will have them take two capsules every 2-3 hours, for 24 hours, and that usually knocks the virus "off its socks," so to speak. This dosage of Transfer Factor can nip a fever in the bud, by supporting the immune system’s natural killer cells.
I also treat fibromyalgia patients with Transfer Factor. I believe that fibromyalgia is most commonly caused by infections, including bacteria, yeast, and parasites. For chronically ill patients dealing with multiple infections, including CNS (Central Nervous System) infections and gastrointestinal infections, I recommend several different Transfer Factor formulas, to be taken together."
Q.: How long does it usually take for a patient to experience positive results once they start taking Transfer Factor?
Doctor Ryser: "My patients usually start to feel better within 3-6 months of beginning treatment with Transfer Factor. Dramatic results usually manifest in about one year, but we really begin to see positive changes in 5-6 months. It typically takes about a year of Transfer Factor treatment to really turn a patient around. I am specifically referring to chronically ill patients who have an average of 2-7 chronic infections that require treatment. The body’s cells regenerate every six months, and you need to give the body a chance to generate healthy cells before dramatic improvements in a patient’s overall health can emerge."
Q.: What, if any, are the side effects or possible negative reactions that can occur with Transfer Factor therapy?
Doctor Ryser: "The initial reactions to Transfer Factor a patient will experience are similar to a vaccination – but without, of course, exposure to the pathogen. The initial reaction typically includes flu-like symptoms, proportionate to the severity of a patient’s illness. These flu-like symptoms go away, but they prove that the immune system has been activated, and that it is working to suppress the body’s infections.
Regarding the safety of Transfer Factor, I have never had a problem with negative side effects or adverse reactions. However, I am very cautious. I perform careful evaluations of a patient’s immune system. I check for viral leukemia, and so forth. I am very careful with cancer and autoimmune patients, with whom you must be cautious with regard to stimulating immune cells – this is particularly the case with Hodgkins Disease and Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma patients."
Q.: What have you found to be the most positive benefits of Transfer Factor for your Chronic Fatigue Syndrome patients – what are the best results you have seen?
Doctor Ryser: "The patient stops getting sick, and they don’t have any more infections. Their cognitive thinking clears up – no more brain fog. Their energy comes back – they can start doing more, and they can start walking and exercising again. They don’t suffer relapses. However, when a patient is doing well and they make the personal decision to stop taking Transfer Factor, I have seen relapses. I strongly recommend that a patient takes Transfer Factor for life – that is, it is a lifetime commitment for my chronically ill patients."

Veterinary Medicine has been my profession and career for over 30 years. I became a large animal veterinarian because of my interests in the cattle industry. Horses and small animals comprised about 20% of my "James Harriet-like" practice. Then, after 4 years of doing what was most important to me, an allergy to cattle popped up. After I had my melanoma, I didn't want a recurrence. Conventional medicine offered me nothing to draw on when it came to protection. Make no mistake, once cancer appears in one part of your body, your risk of getting it somewhere else goes up. My father died of cancer, my mother died of cancer, my son has had a melanoma, my oldest daughter had a pre-melanotic lesion of her ear, my mother-in law had breast cancer, and her sister had breast cancer twice before she died of a massive stroke. It was obvious that we were doing a lousy job of preventing cancer in our family. So I looked elsewhere for the answer.
A visit to a naturopathic physician who knew his stuff led me to an individual with an immune-enhancing compound called transfer factor. Because I agreed to give a talk on TF, I had to review the literature carefully and I became impressed by the data. Here was a natural product that not only boosted the immune system, it also calmed an over-reactive immune system often seen in people with autoimmune diseases, (something my youngest daughter struggled with).

Transfer factor molecules are comprised of a few amino acids that act as immune messenger molecules that work in white blood cells. They are abundantly found within the colostrum of breast milk. When a mother nurses her baby, transfer factors from her more experienced immune system pass to her baby via the colostrum. Colostrum is rich in immune components that pass to the newborn, affording its more vulnerable and new immune system the advantages of a much older, experienced one (its mother).
Moreover, this transfer of immunity to the infant confers protection on the baby until its immune system can make its own transfer factors.
Transfer factors can now be extracted from cow colostrum, concentrated and offered in supplement form. These molecules are not species-specific making them cross-species compatible. While different mammals may have a unique colostrum mix, the transfer factors contained within their colostrum are the same. Transfer factors produced by a cow can work just as effectively in humans as they do in animals. The ability to receive immune data that is transferred from the cow to the human has the potential to revolutionize the way we look at disease prevention in medicine.
The Tri-fold Benefits of Taking TF
When you take taking factor, you get three benefits.
First your immune system is strengthened so that when new viruses or bacteria invade your body, your heightened immune cells react very rapidly. By so doing, they prevent the foreign organism from getting a toe hold; consequently, even if you do get sick, the infection will be milder.

My 15 year old daughter was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis when she was eleven. Prior to the diagnosis, she had been suffering with swollen and extremely tender thumb joints. This had been going on for some time before she brought it to the attention of her mother and I. When I examined her joints and noted their condition, my heart sank. I knew immediately that it was arthritis.
Her mother promptly took her to our pediatrician, who confirmed the diagnosis and referred her to a pediatric rheumatologist at the University of Utah who specializes in childhood arthritis. There are less than fifty such specialists in the United States. He too confirmed the diagnosis and suggested we give our daughter a very powerful anti-inflammatory drug. The side effects of this drug in adults are extensive — so what would it do to our eleven year old daughter?
I consulted with another pediatrician who had been using transfer factor in his patients. He suggested that we give her six capsules a day plus a capsule of a special joint medication also manufactured by 4Life. While the immune-enhancing pathway that TF provides is unique, the addition of certain compounds can create a potent, multifaceted approach to immune defense building. The following natural substances have proven immune-boosting actions and work in tandem with the actions of TF molecules through different pathways.
Echinacea: Echinacea stimulates the production of immune natural killer cells and destroys a broad range of disease-causing bacteria. Echinacea can be a boon to elderly individuals who are particularly susceptible to bacterial infections. A new study conducted by scientists at McGill University in Montreal, Canada showed that two weeks of supplementation with echinacea rejuvenated the production and action of immune killer cells even in animals of advanced age. In addition, several other studies have concluded that echinacea taken orally stimulates the function of a variety of immune cells, particularly natural killer cells.
Cordyceps Sinensis: This fungal botanical medicine has been tested in over 2000 subjects. It works to enhance a variety of immune actions by boosting immune chemicals such as interleukin-1 and 2 and boosting the count of helper-T and NK natural killer cells to fortify and expand the immune systems ability to respond to invaders (infectious, carcinogenic etc). Mannans: Mannans (specifically acemannan) is a carbohydrate extracted from the gel of the aloe vera leaf. It is this compound which is thought to make aloe gel so healing for burns and other skin disorders. Studies show that acemannan increases the number and killing capacity of T-lymphocytes by almost 50 percent. It also has significant anti-tumor activity and can help prevent the replication of viruses in the body. Acemannan is one of a few plant extracts used in people with AIDS. Studies confirm that it has significant value for bacterial, viral, and fungal infections.
IP6: Also known as inositol hexaphosphate or phytic acid (IP6) this compounds is found in legumes and the bran portion of several grains. The reason that high fiber diets are considered anti-cancerous may be due to this very phytochemical. Several laboratory tests have confirmed that IP6 has impressive anti-cancer actions and in 1992, a patent was obtained to mix IP6 with inositol. IP6 is rapidly absorbed and is one of the most impressive anti-cancer compounds found in nature.

Two decades ago, a key thymic protein was discovered and isolated. A patented process has been developed to grow this specific protein for commercial use in supplement form. Glutamine: An amino acid called glutamine is important for immune system function. One double blind study giving athletes who were prone to respiratory infections glutamine reported 81%without subsequent infection compared to 49% in the placebo group.

Zinc: Zinc supplements have been reported to considerable increase immune function. This effect may be especially important in the elderly who can easily become zinc deficient.
Vitamin A and Beta-carotene: Vitamin A plays an important role in immune system function and helps mucous membranes, including those in the lungs, resist invasion by microorganisms. Beta-carotene and other carotenoids boost immune cell numbers and activity in both animal and human research. Placebo-controlled research has confirmed the positive benefits of beta-carotene supplements in increasing numbers of some white blood cells and enhancing cancer-fighting immune functions.
Vitamin C: Vitamin C stimulates the immune system by enhancing interferon levels and boosting the activity of certain immune cells. In controlled reports studying people doing heavy exercise, cold frequency was reduced an average of 50% with vitamin C supplements ranging from 600–1,000 mg per day.
Vitamin E: Vitamin E enhances some aspects of immune cell activity especially in the elderly. A combination of antioxidant vitamins A, C, and E significantly improved immune cell number and activity compared to placebo in a group of hospitalized elderly.

Our medical practice has been collecting data for the past year for a variety of gynecologic conditions to determine what Transfer FactorTM and other 4LifeTM products could do for our patient's health. Each trial was observed for at least two months and most are ongoing.
Transfer FactorTM has been used with over 300 individuals (ages 2-80) with health conditions such as cancer, herpes, yeast, condyloma, arthritis, colds, sore throats, and lupus. When given triple the daily dose of Transfer FactorTM, all have noticed dramatic improvement in their health [time response varied according to seriousness of condition (most serious - 4 weeks or more)].
BioGenistein PlusTM and FemRiteTM were used by 81 women (ages: 42 - 75) with Menopausal symptoms. When given one BioGenistein PlusTM and FemRiteTM was applied twice daily: 45 were asymptomatic, 21 had mild hot flashes requiring some estrogen, 5 required daily estrogen doses (time response varied).

Transfer Factor Can and Does Make a Difference in their health!We have just finished a review of our first 12 months' Pediatric experience with Transfer Factor (and Transfer Factor Plus) from 4Life Research and the review confirms our initial feelings about the improvement in the health of our clients. 88 children who used Transfer Factor daily at the recommended doses for six or more months were compared to same aged and same sexed children who did not use Transfer Factor, and their illness and antibiotic use were compared. We found in this retrospective study a 74% reduction in reported illness and an 84% reduction in antibiotic use. Using any measure, these are very significant results.

Healthier Kids Make Happier KidsAn experience with HIV: Kenny's StoryAn early success with Immune Boosting naturally in a young man with HIV. KG is a 20 year old with Hemophilia who contracted HIV many years ago from "dirty" clotting factors used to treat his Hemophilia. KG has been on many regimens for his HIV, including most recently (within the past year), an experimental regimen with no positive response. TF and TF+ Support in Malignancy in ChildhoodID is an eleven year old with a complex leukemia history. He was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at age 2 with a relapse several years after chemotherapy. Next came a bone marrow transplant and THREE more relapses after the transplant. To add insult to injury, the last relapse was diagnosed as Acute Myeloblastic Leukemia, a VERY difficult cancer to treat. On to a very toxic course of chemotherapy and a slow definitive road to remission. ID was started on TF initially at month 5 of chemotherapy to help support his immune function and hopefully, reduce the chances of infectious complications. TF+ was added 2 months later. His oncologist (my medical partner) has been very pleased and impressed with the results. First, ID "breezed through his therapy" tolerating very low blood counts, with no febrile (or infectious) episodes, and always in very good spirits. When last seen in early 9/99, ID was "thriving" and continues in full remission, with no infectious disease, enjoying a full life as a vigorous 11 year school kid. The "way life should be". How has TF and TF+ impacted this young man? It most likely spared him the life-threatening complications of infectious disease. It apparently improved his tolerance of a very toxic course of chemotherapy. And it may be helping him in his daily immune fight against relapse and infectious stresses. Unquestionably, the fact that ID is alive is a miracle, one dictated by a "Higher Authority": The quality of his life may just be because of immune boosting with 4LR products... and his spirit and his will to live.
Hepatitis C and TF/TF+Kim is a 37 year old father of 4 children with advanced Hepatitis C, facing a long and expensive therapy with Interferon, a therapy fraught with many side effects. He conducted a study comparing the CO2 Laser and cryosurgery for the treatment of pre- invasive disease of the uterine cervix.
He was director of over 400 post- graduate course in colposcopy, cryosurgery and CO2 laser therapy. He co-authored the first textbook on Gynecologic Oncology now in its 5th edition.

Since 1998, Doctor Carol Ann Ryser has been using Transfer Factor to treat her chronically ill patients, and has experienced considerable success in diminishing symptoms and achieving overall health improvements among those patients. In this interview, Doctor Ryser discusses her experience with Transfer Factor as an effective treatment for chronic illness.
Doctor Ryser: "The diagnosis of a patient is of utmost importance. I perform a series of genetic testing with PCR (Polymer Chain Reaction) that tells me the specific bacteria or virus(es) a patient has. Transfer Factor helps with viral, bacterial, and fungal infections as well as parasites, and supports the immune system while treating the problems a patient has. Regarding what formulas of Transfer Factor I use for different patients, I use the plain Transfer Factor as a general prevention treatment, especially for infections and allergies and for patients with Epstein-Barr, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome."
Q: How much Transfer Factor do you typically recommend, and for what kind of patient?
Doctor Ryser: "For chronically ill patients, including those with chronic sinusitis, and multiple allergies, I recommend six capsules a day, and depending on the severity of their symptoms, I might recommend up to twelve capsules a day. For children ages 7-12 or 13, depending on weight, I will recommend two capsules a day, to be taken at bedtime.
When a patient is beginning to get sick and is coming down with a fever, I will have them take two capsules every 2-3 hours, for 24 hours, and that usually knocks the virus "off its socks," so to speak. This dosage of Transfer Factor can nip a fever in the bud, by supporting the immune system’s natural killer cells.
I also treat fibromyalgia patients with Transfer Factor. I believe that fibromyalgia is most commonly caused by infections, including bacteria, yeast, and parasites. For chronically ill patients dealing with multiple infections, including CNS (Central Nervous System) infections and gastrointestinal infections, I recommend several different Transfer Factor formulas, to be taken together."
Q.: How long does it usually take for a patient to experience positive results once they start taking Transfer Factor?
Doctor Ryser: "My patients usually start to feel better within 3-6 months of beginning treatment with Transfer Factor. Dramatic results usually manifest in about one year, but we really begin to see positive changes in 5-6 months. It typically takes about a year of Transfer Factor treatment to really turn a patient around. I am specifically referring to chronically ill patients who have an average of 2-7 chronic infections that require treatment. The body’s cells regenerate every six months, and you need to give the body a chance to generate healthy cells before dramatic improvements in a patient’s overall health can emerge."
Q.: What, if any, are the side effects or possible negative reactions that can occur with Transfer Factor therapy?
Doctor Ryser: "The initial reactions to Transfer Factor a patient will experience are similar to a vaccination – but without, of course, exposure to the pathogen. The initial reaction typically includes flu-like symptoms, proportionate to the severity of a patient’s illness. These flu-like symptoms go away, but they prove that the immune system has been activated, and that it is working to suppress the body’s infections.
Regarding the safety of Transfer Factor, I have never had a problem with negative side effects or adverse reactions. However, I am very cautious. I perform careful evaluations of a patient’s immune system. I check for viral leukemia, and so forth. I am very careful with cancer and autoimmune patients, with whom you must be cautious with regard to stimulating immune cells – this is particularly the case with Hodgkins Disease and Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma patients."
Q.: What have you found to be the most positive benefits of Transfer Factor for your Chronic Fatigue Syndrome patients – what are the best results you have seen?
Doctor Ryser: "The patient stops getting sick, and they don’t have any more infections. Their cognitive thinking clears up – no more brain fog. Their energy comes back – they can start doing more, and they can start walking and exercising again. They don’t suffer relapses. Dena’s Transfer Factor Story
En EspañolMy name is Dena Guidice, and I want to share with you how Transfer Factor™ has saved my life. In November of 1998, I was diagnosed with lung cancer. At that time, my team of doctors recommended that the best course of treatment for my cancer would be to perform radiation and chemotherapy simultaneously. I got started with both treatments immediately and was given the highest dosages of treatment possible. Over the next 90 days, I suffered from all of the normal side effects including weakness, vomiting, hair loss & severe weight loss. My radiation and chemo treatments ended late February 1999.
On March 25th, 1999, I went in for surgery (as planned), and the doctors removed a tumor from my right lung along with the top 1/3rd of my lung and three sections of my ribs. The surgery went very well, and the doctors believed that they had successfully removed all of the cancer from my body. After my surgery, I went through an additional 12 weeks of chemotherapy from May to July 1999, as a "safety measure." It was during this time that my body became so weak that all I could do was sleep and lie in bed all day. I lost all of my hair at this point, and my fingernails and teeth became so brittle I started to lose them as well. I lost my appetite completely and got to the point where I weighed only 88 pounds.
Even as sick as I was in the summer, I was still hopeful that by fall I would get stronger after the chemotherapy was out of my system. My hope was short lived, however. In August, I found a lump under my left arm. After another surgery to remove that tumor, the tests confirmed that I had malignant lymphatic cancer (cancer of the lymph nodes) and that the cancer was all over my whole body. At that point in time, my team of doctors told me there was nothing they could do for me. I had stage 4 (final stage) cancer and I had a maximum of 4 to 6 months to live. They told me to do everything I’ve always wanted to do in life within the next 45-60 days because after that, I would be much too weak and too sick to do anything whatsoever. By this time, I was convinced that I was going to die - especially since the doctors had never seen a person live beyond 8 months, in my condition with my kind of cancer.
At this point, I shared the devastating news with my kids, and we all took a trip to Hawaii. In my own mind, I knew that this would be my "farewell trip." I had given up every ounce of hope, and I had mentally prepared myself to die. It was at this time (1st week in October) that my son finally convinced me to start taking Transfer Factor. Transfer Factor Study with 20 Cancer Patients Darryl See, M.D. conducted the following studies.
Twenty patients, 12 men and 8 women, were selected for this in vivo study. The average age was 49.3. The twenty individuals were each level 3 or level 4 cancer patients. Each patient was basically sent home by his or her oncologist to die. The average life expectancy was 3.7 months. The protocol was to place each patient on 9 capsules per day of Transfer Factor Plus™. The patients were given a number of other general nutrients*. I have to admit that I was somewhat skeptical about Transfer Factor (Plus) when I first tried the product, but let me tell you, it's truly amazing! I have been a chronic allergy sufferer all my life. A friend of mine told me that I should have my son on transfer factors. He has AIDS, so we got him on it. I have been having pain caused by arthritis. It was gradually getting worse. Last Friday the pain was so bad that I could not fold the Sunday church bulletins. On one occasion during a routine cardio examination, the stand-by doctor in the hospital gave me some medication that was meant to help control my blood pressure. However, I developed a long-term dry cough. This lasted for 9 months. I coughed so much that my muscles around the ribs ached. An aggravated condition also appeared – I had pain and swellings in my joints – the toes, ankles, elbows, and even shoulders. This condition worsened and both my eyeballs also swelled up. My eyeball would touch my eyeglasses when I put them on. Then my doctor informed me the rheumatoid arthritis was attacking my brain.
In the period of one year I was hospitalized twice. On the second occasion I had blacked out. Both times I was in bad shape. My road to recovery was slow. I was on steroid (one tablet per day), and told to do some exercise. I found it difficult to do with my pain and weakened condition. But I tried my best. Then I encountered Transfer Factor sometime in end 2002. When I took the product, I noticed accelerated and rapid improvement in my exercise activity. I had started out with one capsule of TF a day. When I experienced the improvements, I took 2 capsules per day at the fourth month. From my blood tests, my rheumatoid factor came down considerably. My doctor was pleased. My dosage of steroid was reduced.

I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 1991. Throughout the past several years I have suffered from constant pain in my abdomen along with irritability and other symptoms of Crohn’s disease. An early success with Immune Boosting naturally in a young man with HIV. KG is a 20 year old with Hemophilia who contracted HIV many years ago from "dirty" clotting factors used to treat his Hemophilia. My dad brought me a baby calf to bottle feed because her mom wasn't making enough milk to sustain her. She was approx. 2 weeks old and didn't take well to the bottle. Unusual accident - multiple surgeries.... In Feb. 1991 I met with a freak accident which left me with a damaged TMJ, several cracked teeth, several damaged vertebrae in my cervical area, injury to my lower back and left knee. At a time when science is just beginning to understand how transfer factors work in the vastly complex communications of the immune system, people throughout the world are reaping the benefits of improved health and immune-system function from these amazing molecules.
The work of many researchers demonstrates that transfer factors educate and enhance immunological functions. Highlights of this work include the documentation that natural killer (NK) cell lymphocyte activity significantly increases after a single pulse of transfer factors.
Transfer factors are fundamentally the information molecule of the immune system. In a small portion of the transfer factors peptide (a string of amino acids), the molecular identity of a virus, a bacteria or other pathogen is encoded. At the molecular level, this is analogous to casting a footprint in wet sand; that impression is transfer factor.
When the immune system sees these “footprints,” it grabs them, processes them and hands them off to uncommitted or immature immune cells that do not have a footprint of their own. In the process of grabbing and passing off this information, many cytokines are secreted into the immediate area. In particular, the cytokines interleukin 12 (IL-12) and interleukin 2 (IL-2) provide general excitement and enhancement of all immune cells and the NK cell in particular.
Transfer factors for commercial use were first obtained from the colostrum of dairy cattle. With the subsequent discovery of transfer factors in the yolk of hen’s eggs, science took a big step in the development of transfer factors targeted for specific organs. As hens lay an egg a day, they have become a significant source of transfer factors.
The idea to blend bovine (cow) colostral transfer factors and avian (chicken) transfer factors came from the notion that the two sources of transfer factors from different species may provide a broader array of microbial identities encoded in the transfer factors to educate the immune system in a synergistic fashion.
To test the idea that a blend of transfer factors may further enhance immune function, scientists used the NK cell assay. The NK cell assay is the best test currently available to evaluate immune function. The NK assay uses living lymphocytes in an in vitro, or lab, setting. Using this assay, researchers were able to determine the specific blend of bovine and avian transfer factors that outperformed all the others. The study results exceeded the researchers’ expectations and provided important insights, primarily that it does appear that the blend works synergistically.
What Natural Killer Cells Do
Before discussing the test, it is important to understand the function of NK cells in the immune system. Scientists and physicians the world over, are just now recognizing the power of the NK cell to control viral infections and tumors. They use some of the natural immune modulators to attempt to enhance immune function. A great number of studies show very clearly that the NK cell can and does control and help contain many types of cancer and virally-infected cells.
The NK cell is a unique type of lymphocyte as it needs no priming or education to function as the T- and B-lymphocytes do. Rather the NK cell has the ability to recognize foreignness. A tissue transplanted surgically is often rejected by the NK cell unless the tissue “match” is very good and certain immune-suppressing drugs are given. A cell that has transformed into a tumor or a cell that has become infected with a virus may lose its native character and appear foreign to the NK cell.
The NK cells patrol all the cells of the body and make physical contact with the “NK kiss.” If the kiss reveals that the cell is okay and not foreign, the cell is given grace. If the kiss reveals that the cells are a tumor or virally-infected, the kiss is the kiss of death and two types of toxins elaborated by the NK cell destroy the cell.
The NK cell used to be thought of as a primitive form of immunity. It is now very clear that the NK cell is the “king pin” of the immune system and has great influence over many immune functions. Thus, high functioning NK cells have many important roles in maintaining optimal immune function and balance.
Measuring NK Cell Activity
White blood cells from healthy donors provided a source of lymphocytes for the assay. Unmarked samples containing several different combinations of transfer factors sourced from cow colostrum and chicken egg yolks were incubated with the NK cells for various time periods of up to 48 hours in order to identify the most potent blend ratio. Known quantities of NK cells are added to small wells containing living cancer cells. These cancer cells are the targets for the NK cells. A dye that can be measured electronically is used to indicate when a cancer cell is lysed, or killed. This allows for objective measurement of the NK cell actions. The test then determines the number of the target cancer cells destroyed by the NK cells. The percent cell lysis (CL) is the important measure.
The Results: 4Life Transfer Factor and 4Life Transfer Factor Plus Advanced Formulas
The NK cell tests for the avian/bovine 4Life Transfer Factor blends and 4Life Transfer Factor Plus blends revealed the optimal blends that induced the NK cells to kill 69 and 97% of the cancer cells, respectively (Figure 1). This represents a 283 and 437% increase over baseline, or control NK cell function, where no Transfer Factor was added. To further validate the test, the lab used a positive control. In this case, the positive control was the potent physiological immune mediator called interleukin 2 or IL-2. Interleukin 2 very specifically stimulates NK cell actions and, when used in drug form, is known as a standard for some types of cancer research. In the NK cell assay, IL-2 gave an 88% increase in cell lysis. Amazingly, 4Life Transfer Factor Plus Advanced Formula outperformed the positive control and was dubbed by the researchers as the “golden interleukin.”

Interleukin 2 is used in medicine for certain cancer patients. It is used in the hope that it will increase NK cell function and improve outcomes. Unfortunately, IL-2 is experimental, very expensive and can have rather toxic side effects when administered to patients. Both laboratory studies and human experience show that 4Life Transfer Factor and 4Life Transfer Factor Plus are non-toxic and well tolerated by animals and people alike. More than likely, these two products work to stimulate a natural release of immune modulators like the interleukins.
In the laboratory test, the highest-performing blend also revealed some new important information. The 4Life Transfer Factor blend followed a classic dose-response curve. Simply put, this means there is a dose of the blend in this assay that provides the optimum response. A smaller dose provides a lesser response and conversely a higher dose provides no additional benefit. Most nutritional supplements as well as prescription drugs function in the classic dose-response fashion.
Shown in Figure 2 is the actual data from the highest-performing blend. This somewhat complex piece of information gives scientists confidence in the NK cell assay and describes the dose-response character of 4Life Transfer Factor blend.

4Life Transfer Factor Plus Advanced Formula
4Life Transfer Factor Plus Advanced Formula increased NK cell lysis 437%, that’s nearly 450%, the maximum that this particular assay can measure. Just how this combination of ingredients works is not clear, yet the components are the subject of active research by molecular immunologists.
The additional components of 4Life Transfer Factor Plus Advanced Formula may account for the greater response over IL-2. The plant-based complex polysaccharides, like mannins and glucans, have the ability to interact with special receptors on other immune system cells. The macrophage and antigen processing cells (APC) activate in the presence of these plant materials. They appear to these cells as if they are products of bacteria or yeast. The interaction causes further release of stimulating cytokines. Thus, the two sources of stimulation synergize to give the high NK cell functions.
This type of immune stimulation is desirable, as it now appears from recent studies that a stimulated immune system is a high-functioning and balanced immune system. The concept of balance has great implication for regulation of immune functions that have gone astray.
Figure 3 is a stylized time line of immune responses to a viral infection. In a matter of one day after a new viral infection, the cytokines are in action and soon thereafter, the NK cell activity increases and peaks. At this peak, the total viral load plateaus. This plateau is due to the action of the NK cells killing virally-infected cells and stopping replication of the virus.
It is now clear that early and effective NK cell function is critical and determines the outcome and duration of an illness.

Health Implications
Supplementing immune function and vigilance is now possible at a level unknown less than a decade ago. The paradigm shifts, as we have the ability to move the NK cell peak activity from hours to days earlier. The amazing implication is that with improved NK function, infection without illness is possible as is tumor recognition and destruction before the tumor becomes recognized as disease.
The opportunity to prevent illness has been rather illusive, except for the application of a few vaccines. The ability to safely and inexpensively improve immune function makes this hope no longer illusive. Prevention is indeed the key and available to everyone through transfer factor.
Who Needs a Boost in Immune Function?
There are people who are fit, happy, strong and seem to never be ill or even catch a cold. They have “heroic” immune systems. But even heroes have bad days. Depressed immune function typically comes with age and confounding factors. Things like a poor diet, extreme diets, chronic stress, obesity and underlying disease all contribute to immune dysfunction.
